Electoral Ward Map
Mackenzie County is divided into ten wards. Each ward has a Councillor who is elected by the citizens within his or her ward boundaries and serves a for a year term. The elected Council then elects a Reeve and a Deputy Reeve from within on an annual basis. Governed by the Municipal Government Act, the Council passes bylaws that provide for, develop and maintain safe and viable communities.

VOTER ELIGIBILITY
You are eligible to vote in a municipal election if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
- you are 18 years of age or over
- you are a Canadian citizen
- you live in Alberta
- you are a resident of Mackenzie County and the Ward on Election Day
- you have acceptable voter identification
- you have not voted in this election before
- you sign a declaration that you meet these qualifications
VOTER IDENTIFICATION
In order to vote in a municipal election, you must produce identification for inspection as required by section 53 of the Local Authorities Election Act, and as outlined in the Government of Alberta’s Voter Identification Requirements Factsheet. The required identification must be one or more of the following:
- One piece of photo identification issued by a Canadian government or agency which includes the elector’s name and current address (i.e. Operator/Driver’s License or Government Photo Identification Card (for non-driver’s); or
- One piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Act indicating the elector’s name and current address (i.e. Government cheque or cheque stub; property tax notice; insurance policy or coverage card; utility bill, etc.).
The Attestation of Identity and Ordinary Residence for Tenant Elector Form may be used by renters to prove residency for the purposes of voting at the election.

Senate Election and Referendum
A Senate Election and Referendum will be held on October 18, 2021, in conjunction with the Municipal Election in ALL wards throughout the County. Under the Alberta Referendum Act, residents will be asked to vote on the following questions:
Should section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 – Parliament and the government of Canada’s commitment to the principle of making equalization payments – be removed from the constitution?
Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

The 2021 Candidate Information Guide contains information on pertinent legislation, elected official positions, candidate eligibility, nomination procedures, campaigning, and voting procedures. This information is not a replacement for consulting the actual legislation or obtaining legal advice. There may be severe penalties, including fines and disqualification from elected office if you are found to be in breach of any provisions.
To authorize Mackenzie County to publish your photo and contact information on our website and in the media, please complete the Authorization for Release of Personal Information Form.
The Nomination Paper and Candidate Acceptance Form (Form 4) is valid if signed by at least five eligible voters. It is recommended that candidates obtain more than the required number of signatures by completing the Supplementary Nominations and Contact Information Form to avoid eligibility challenges. Candidates must also complete and file the Candidate Financial Information Form (Form 5) at the same time as their Nomination Paper.

Please note that Mackenzie County is no longer accepting applications for election workers for the 2021 Municipal Election. Selected applicants have been notified and should attend the scheduled training session on October 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m (lunch will be provided).
