Nomination Period – January 1 – September 22, 2025
To become a nominated candidate and appear on a ballot, a candidate must complete the nomination process and file all necessary forms and paperwork during the Nomination Period from January 1 – September 22, 2025. Nomination packages will be provided at a later date.
Nomination Day – September 22, 2025
All required nomination forms and paperwork must be submitted to Mackenzie County by 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Monday, September 22, 2025
Election Day – October 20, 2025
ELECTORAL WARD MAP
Mackenzie County is divided into ten electoral areas called wards. Each ward has a Councillor that has been elected by citizens within his/her ward boundaries. Each Council member serves a four-year term. The elected Council then elects a Reeve and Deputy Reeve from within, on an annual basis.
NOTICE OF INTENT TO RUN
The Notice of Intent to Run process is new for the 2025 Municipal Election and differs from the Nomination Process. Prospective candidates must file the Notice of Intent to Run form before accepting campaign contributions or incurring campaign expenses. All candidates are required to submit a Notice of Intent to Run prior to submitting nomination forms.
After the Returning Officer accepts the Notice of Intent to Run, the Register of Candidates will be updated.

No Notices of Intent to Run have been filed at this time.
NOMINATION ELIGIBILITY
You are eligible for nomination in a municipal election if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
- you are eligible to vote in this election
- you are a resident of Mackenzie County AND the Ward, for six consecutive months immediately preceding Nomination Day
- you are not otherwise ineligible or disqualified
- See Section 22 of the Local Authorities Election Act for Ineligibility of Candidates.
VOTER ELIGIBILITY
You are eligible to vote in a municipal election if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
- you are 18 years of age or over
- you are a Canadian citizen
- you live in Alberta
- you are a resident of Mackenzie County and the Ward on Election Day
- you have acceptable voter identification
- you have not voted in this election before
- you sign a declaration that you meet these qualifications
Voter Identification
In order to vote in a municipal election, you must produce identification for inspection as required by section 53 of the Local Authorities Election Act, and as outlined in the Government of Alberta’s Voter Identification Requirements. The required identification must be one or more of the following:
- One piece of photo identification issued by a Canadian government or agency which includes the elector’s name and current address (i.e. Operator/Driver’s License or Government Photo Identification Card (for non-driver’s); or
- One piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Act indicating the elector’s name and current address (i.e. Government cheque or cheque stub; property tax notice; insurance policy or coverage card; utility bill, etc.).
The Attestation of Identity and Ordinary Residence for Tenant Elector Form may be used by renters to prove residency for the purposes of voting at the election.
