Apply for a License

Most municipalities in Alberta required businesses to obtain a Business License to operate a business. A business is generally defined as “the carrying on of a commercial or industrial undertaking of any kind or the providing of professional, personal or other services for the purpose of profit or gain”.

Unless specifically exempted under the provisions of the Business License Bylaw, provincial legislation, or federal legislation, any person carrying on or operating a business within Mackenzie County is required to obtain a Business License. This requirement applies to home-based businesses, as well as commercial and industrial operations. Business Licenses are also required for companies that do work within the County, but whose operations may not be based out of Mackenzie County, such as contractors.

In addition to being required by Mackenzie County’s Business License Bylaw, an Business License is a good investment. Having a license shows your customers that you are a legitimate business that complies with local laws and regulations.
