Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for an Administrative Assistant position. The primary location for this position will be in Fort Vermilion, however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements.  This is a full-time unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday. This is a term position which will commence immediately and end in March 2026.

Reporting to the Director of Legislative and Support Services, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Front counter coverage and customer service;
  • Responding to inquiries and/or complaints in a professional and tactful manner;
  • Distribution of County related mail;
  • Verifying accuracy of daily bank deposits;
  • Conducting and verifying that accurate receipts are completed for payments;
  • Recording of receipts in General Ledger;
  • Completion of water and sewer connection and disconnection forms;
  • Ordering and maintaining office supply inventory;
  • Other duties as required.

 Requirements for this position are:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field (i.e. Office Administration Certificate)
  • 2-3 years related experience in an administrative position;
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Experience working in a team environment;
  • Must be a self-starter and motivated to complete projects and tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check;

Mackenzie County is currently accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant.  This primary location for this position will be in La Crete however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.  This is a term position which will commence beginning of December 2025 and end on June 30, 2027.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the main duties of this position will be:

  • Assist in preparing charts and presentations;
  • Maintaining various agreements such as Master Road Protection agreements and Licence Agreements;
  • Processing of road access applications and managing requests to construct access requests and concern forms;
  • Prepare meeting agenda, meeting package, and meeting minutes for various meetings including the monthly site safety meetings;
  • Prepare and track inventories for gravel, culverts, equipment, cutting edges, etc.
  • Assist with compiling the departmental budget for Management review;
  • Assist in preparation of year end documentation as requested;
  • Other duties as required.

 Requirements for this position are:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (i.e. Office Administration Certificate) is considered an asset;

  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma, post-secondary is considered an asset;
  • Two (2) years of experience in an administrative position;

  • Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development, support with Planning and Development projects.
  • Assist ratepayers with Road/Lane Closure, Disposal of Municipal Reserve, Lot Consolidation & Land Use Bylaw Amendment applications;
  • Responsible for the creation and development of new planning and development bylaws and policies;
  • Prepare offer to purchase agreements, land transfer agreements, easement agreements, and URW agreements;
  • As required, responsible for the processing of development permit applications and subdivision applications according to the County’s policies and bylaws;
  • Maintain airport lease agreements;
  • Prepare caveats, discharge of caveats, and submit to Land Titles Office for registration;
  • Prepare documents for the Municipal Planning Commission and the Inter-municipal Planning Commission and present items;
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma, post-secondary is an asset;
  • Two (2) years of experience in an administrative position is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Municipal Government Act as it relates to Planning & Development;
  • Knowledge of application of Land Use Bylaws and land development issues;
  • Working knowledge of GIS systems (AutoCAD, Arc View) is an asset;

  • Strong attention to detail and timelines;

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Finance Clerk position. The location for this position will be in Fort Vermilion. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Enter budget data into the budgeting software and capital budget reports for operation departments.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly operating budget and capital budget reports for operating departments.
  • Record the credit card and other monthly account transactions and prepare journal entry, and invoices for submission to the Director of Finance for review.
  • Regularly enter invoices and other project data in the project costing spreadsheet and regularly reconcile it to the general ledger. Verify all documentation required as received.
  • Assist in preparation of the project reports to granting agencies as required.
  • Prepare GST return monthly/quarterly for review and submission by the Finance Controller.
  • Record and prepare report for Bursary applications, documentation requirements, and awarding including but not limited to payment or reimbursement requests.
  • Work with the Finance team on cross training, and team projects.
  • Other Administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Office Administration Diploma or combination of equivalent training and experience is an asset;
  • 2 years accounting experience is an asset;
  • Canadian Payroll Association Certification (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) and knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics Accounting Program is an asset;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word;
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail;

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Public Works Supervisor position. The primary location for this position will be in Zama, however the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time out of scope position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Manual labour (i.e. shoveling snow/dirt);
  • Maintenance and repair of signs, culverts, bridge washing etc.;
  • Assisting with crack-filling, pavement patching, etc.;
  • Operate snow/plow truck, grader, lawn mowing equipment, back hoe, misc. equipment as required;
  • Minor grader maintenance including changing blades;
  • Document the maintenance of roads, establish task priorities and prepare monthly reports to the Director of Operations;
  • Review maintenance procedures regularly;
  • Ensure maintenance and construction projects are completed in a timely manner while meeting the County’s standards and specifications;
  • Assist in the preparation of the roads maintenance budget;
  • Daily supervision of road maintenance staff and contractors;
  • Assist other departments and external organizations as directed by the Director of Operations;
  • Some weekend or holiday work required (Saturday & Sunday);
  • Other duties as required.

 Requirements for this position are:

  • Three to five years related experience;
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience;
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Experience;
  • Ability to provide supervision to staff and contractors;
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Ability to provide effective interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven organizational and time management skills;
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License;

Salary Range: $100,000 – $114,869 per annum.  Mackenzie County offers a Comprehensive Benefit Package including isolation pay.

Mackenzie County is currently accepting applications for the position of Public Works Supervisor (North).  This position is located in Fort Vermilion and is a permanent full-time out-of-scope contract position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.  This position will report to the Director of Operations.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Daily supervision of road maintenance staff;
  • Ensure maintenance and construction projects are completed in a timely manner while meeting the County’s standards & specifications;
  • Recommend to the Director of Operations the hiring of contractors when applicable;
  • Assist in the supervision of maintenance contractors;
  • Review and document the maintenance of roads, and prepare monthly reports with recommendations to the Director of Operations;
  • Coordinate with the Mechanic to ensure proper and timely maintenance of County equipment and vehicles;
  • With the approval of the Director of Operations, responsible for the hiring and supervision of private equipment, while ensuring the hourly rate is paid according to Council’s directive;
  • Adhering to Mackenzie County’s safety program;
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to;
  • Assist in the preparation of the roads, parks and airport maintenance budget;
  • Communicate with the public in a professional manner;
  • Other Administrative duties as assigned.

 Requirements for this position are:

  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma is considered an asset;
