Joint Statement on West Fraser’s Announcement

We are deeply concerned and saddened by West Fraser’s announcement that they will be curtailing operations at the High Level OSB mill in spring 2026. This facility has been a major part of our communities in northwest Alberta, supporting families, strengthening our local economy, and contributing to the identity and resilience of our region for many years.

This decision will affect many workers, families, and businesses across the region, and we know the impact will be felt far beyond the mill itself. Our thoughts are with everyone who is facing uncertainty because of this announcement.

Northwest Alberta has faced difficult moments before, and our communities have always responded with strength, unity, and determination. We will do so again. Our immediate focus is on working with provincial and federal partners, community agencies, and industry to understand the full impacts and request appropriate supports and resources are in place for affected workers and families.

Together, we will work toward a path that protects our people, stabilizes our communities, and creates long-term resilience and new opportunities for the future.
